Pro Bono
Pro bono practice is work undertaken pro bono publico or “for
the good of the public.” It is uncompensated labor for
the benefit of those who are unable to afford counsel, and it
is an important part of McManis Faulkner’s law practice.
“It’s why we went to law school,” says the
firm’s founder, James McManis.
In May 2005, the Law Foundation of Silicon Valley honored the firm with the Honorable Robert F. Peckham Award for outstanding public interest litigation.
The firm undertakes pro bono matters that serve the public interest and provide growth experiences for our younger lawyers. Pro bono cases are treated just like any other case—the lawyer’s time is treated as billable time and partners supervise, but the firm pays the costs.
In addition to taking on pro bono
work, MF attorneys and staff serve their communities outside
the office by volunteering, leading, and giving financial
support to a wide range of charities, religious organizations,
and schools.
