Representative Plaintiff’s Litigation Cases
  • MF Obtained a $110,500 jury verdict in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California against the City of San Jose for defaming and harassing an African-American.
  • In Ruffo, et al, v. City of San Jose, et al, MF represented a group of long-time residents and taxpayers of the City of San Jose, who successfully challenged the plan to relocate City Hall by unlawfully spending $50 million in redevelopment money.

  • In consumer fraud actions brought in both federal and state courts, MF’s efforts on behalf of a nationwide class of hundreds of thousands of diabetic consumers resulted in a cash settlement of $45 million obtained from a renowned medical device manufacturer, in In re LifeScan, Inc.
  • MF’s lawyers obtained relief on behalf of hundreds of elderly Californians in a predatory lending case involving reverse mortgages, in a coordination proceeding entitled:  Gentle, et al, v. Freedom Investment Fund, Inc., et al.

  • MF’s team of lawyers achieved the maximum recovery from an insurer under an ERISA plan for a young quadriplegic mother of three who was wrongfully refused accidental death and dismemberment benefits following a catastrophic accident.

  • MF represented a pedestrian against a psychiatrist who treated a patient with a history of mental troubles and a desire to hurt people with his pickup truck. In a case that could have broad implications for the mental health profession, a Santa Clara County Superior Court jury awarded more than $11 million to our brain-damaged client who was injured when the patient ran into him with his truck. The jury ordered the psychiatrist to pay $8.6 million of the award. The jury determined that the psychiatrist was liable for his failure to comply with state regulations that require doctors and mental health professionals to notify the Department of Motor Vehicles that their patients are incapable of driving safely.

  • MF obtained a plaintiff’s verdict for the former men’s head basketball coach at U.C. Santa Cruz in a civil rights case in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California against the University of California.

  • In a civil rights case, on behalf of a young woman wrongfully detained and strip searched, MF successfully obtained monetary and injunctive relief for our client and others against a city police department.
